Why I skipped 9 to 5 to travel
“How and what made you skip your 9 to 5 and be a nomad. I’m 20 years old and I want to learn so bad”.
A community member sent me this in an email, and although I’d responded to them, I had to go back and think about it even further.
So, if you’re reading this, here’s an expanded version, in a few more sentences.
Being nomadic is only a characteristic of someone who lives purposefully.
You can live your purpose in so many different ways.
But I knew way before I could adequately articulate my thoughts that travel would be a part of my life - It may only take 25 years.
Once I knew this, I started looking for and seeing opportunities everywhere.
My first international travel took over 50 grant applications because I couldn’t afford to travel.
That same year I travelled 3 more times, all fully paid for.
If you want something, speak it to your mind constantly, and a way will manifest.
Every penny you earn, every time you spend alone in your thoughts will only serve one purpose - to fulfil your innermost desire - which in this case, is to become a nomad.
Fulfilling your innermost desire does not mean that life will take it easy on you because it’s your ‘desire’, but you will be content with whatever shit it throws at you.
I was reading one of James Dalman’s writing last night, in one of his publications, a sentence stood out to me - start with the question… If you could do anything…, what would it be?
Below are some articles that I enjoyed reading this week.
As we head into the weekend, remember to switch off, spend time with family, and do something that excites you.
